Happy 44th birthday, mom!

Happy birthday to the strongest and most beautiful woman I know - my mother.

Thank you for being my rock. Thank you for always being someone I can confide to without fear of being judged. Thank you for being there for me, regardless of whether I was right or wrong in any given situation. Even when everyone has turned their backs on me, you stand firmly rooted to your spot, with arms open wide.

Thank you for keeping kuya and I safe. Thank you for taking care of us all these years. I think I have kuya's permission to apologize on our behalf for not being able to take care of you when you need us sometimes.

Thank you for being a stage mom. Even during the times pops couldn't come to my grade school performances, and obviously during my 1D events, you've been there. I don't think I want that to change any time soon.

There are so many things I have yet to thank you for, and the ones mentioned above are just the ones picked off the top of my head. You have done so much for me, kuya, and our family, that I don't know where to start. I don't know which is more important than the other, because all your actions seem to shape who I am as a person today.

I'm just like Papa. Everyone likes to joke that I've got your face, but my father's attitude. I agree. But this will not stop me from trying my best to be just like you. I'm not putting you up on a pedestal, but I've seen you overcome all the trials and tribulations thrown at you with your head held high, and your dignity and morals intact. Comical heroes are jealous. Even they can't try their best to keep calm sometimes.

Everyone tells you that you're too nice. That you let people stomp all over you. That you shouldn't give them your permission to verbally hurt you, or anyone you care for. I've told you this a couple of times too, mom, but then I realized that you wouldn't be where you are today had it not been for all the people who have been rude to you and made you want to be a better person. I think we both cannot thank them enough for the life lessons they've taught you, and the wisdom you have gained through experience. Some of them have already been handed down to me, and I will always treasure them even long after you're gone (yeah.... I hate to mention that. Sorry, mom, I had to!)

You know very well that every given situation, my initial reaction would be 'what would mom do?', with varying verbs such as 'what would mom say?' or 'how would mom react?' You may or may not have ingrained this into my subconscious, but it keeps me from making shallow decisions and reminds me to keep an eye on the bigger picture. The greater scheme of things, if you will.

I know I haven't been the best daughter in the world, what with my brattiness and unpredictable mood swings. But even then, you love me unconditionally. The same goes for kuya. We both know how he is. I don't think I have to write it down for you. I'm sure you get what I mean. So here's another thank you for that. Cheers to a mother's unconditional love.

We have shared so much memories together, obviously. They're my favorite out of all the memories I have with any other person. Late night runs for fast food when I'm hungry, kwentuhan outside while you smoke a cigarette, crying over boys and my friends, shopping... There's just so much to mention that it'll take me years to list them all down. By the time I finish, time that could've spent bonding with you will have passed and I don't want to lose such precious time.

I'd like to make it known that I woke up from my deep slumber to write you this post in time for 12AM. By the time you read this, I'll either be sleeping or playing games on the iPad again... That, or I'm eating...

Happy birthday to my favorite person in the whole world, my best-est friend, and the one I can always turn to. Happy 44th birthday, mom. I love you!

P.S.: I haven't got everything I wanted to say down yet, but my sleepy brain is refusing to cooperate. Sorry!
